COR3 Design recently attended the groundbreaking for a project underway in Pickens, South Carolina. We partnered with the Pickens Golf Club to design an 8,800 square foot building with a full service restaurant and bar, pro shop, and swimming pool for members and customers of the Carolina Camp Cedar Outdoor Resort.
For more than 10,000 years (or, since the Stone Age), wood has been an integral part of construction around the world. It is valued for its versatility, with external and internal uses as infinite as the mind can imagine.
Of course, wood is a natural form so it is subject to degradation and impact from the elements, which can result in rotting, cracking, erosion and the loss of physical properties. For years, scientists have explored ways to make it more durable and therefore sustainable to lengthen its lifespan as a construction material.
How many times have you looked at a piece of art on display in a museum or gallery and wondered to yourself, “what exactly am I looking at and why is it so special?” As architects and designers, we understand this sentiment well thanks to the natural overlap between art and our field.
As architectural designers who truly cut our teeth in the retail field, we were tickled to read a story about Swedish retailer IKEA trying to eliminate a core element of their design–-and the backlash that followed from loyal customers.
At COR3, we are always keeping a close watch on trends associated with energy, sustainability, and climate change because they have a profound impact on the future of architectural design. As our environment changes, we must adapt the buildings we create to be able to withstand a future that might be different from what we all consider “normal” today.

Alex joined COR3 Design after completing his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Clemson University in 2025. During his studies, he developed a strong foundation in construction documentation, detailing, and design technology—skills he now applies daily to support COR3’s diverse commercial projects.
At COR3, Alex assists in creating and refining construction document sets, managing redlines, and performing due diligence to ensure design accuracy and buildability. He is proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, and 3D modeling, contributing both technical precision and creative perspective to each project.
Originally from Greenville, Alex is half-Brazilian and fluent in Portuguese, bringing a cultural awareness and global mindset to his work. Outside the office, he enjoys hiking, woodworking, graphic design, and attending local music and community events. Alex has also been recognized on the Clemson University Dean’s List and volunteers with the KROC Center Architecture Club.
