SC’s New Building Code to Take Effect

It is never too early to start preparing for building code updates coming down the pipeline. Here in South Carolina, the South Carolina Building Codes Council adopted the 2021 South Carolina Building Codes at their meeting on October 6, 2021, which will go into effect on January 1, 2023.

According to the SC LLR, “the primary function of the Building Codes Council is to adopt or modify model building codes for South Carolina and regulate the registration of Building Codes Officers, Special Inspectors, and the Modular Building Program.” It is sometimes helpful to remember why these details and rules are refreshed every few years. Our world is constantly evolving, and it’s important that these new codes reflect safety, research, and technology that can ensure consistency and new opportunities across built environments.

If you haven’t already, take a moment to familiarize yourself with the new modifications coming.
